Παναγία Κορφιάτισσα

The Church of Panagia Korfiatissa was built in 1810 on steep cliffs. The courtyard in front of the church is known as "Marmara" (= “marble”) because it is paved with marble tombstones from the old town.

The church offers a wonderful view of the sea, especially when the sun sets. In the church you can see relics from the old abandoned churches of the island, Cretan-Byzantine paintings from the churches of Zephyria, relics of saints kept in small silver chests, the carved and gilded iconostasis and the golden-plated epitaph of Panagia Skiniotissa which dates back to 1600 and which was brought from Smyrna.
